In the sea of self importance and celebrity chefs that is the London restaurant scene, Lindsay House is a place of refuge. Tucked away down a quiet back street, yards from Soho's main artery, the restaurant is discreetly signed and housed in a modest Georgian terrace. After ringing the bell at the top step, you are ushered in like a long lost relative and as soon as you are seated at your table in one of the warren of rooms, you feel relaxed and at home. For a start, there is no trendy music - just the relaxed chatter of the diners. There are no snooty waiters - instead they are disarmingly helpful and friendly, and finally, there is no intimidating décor. The floorboards are a bit creaky, the carpet is threadbare and the crockery is charmingly old-fashioned. The combined effect seems to set everyone at ease and while pretty wonderful all year round, the restaurant is really something special at Christmas, when the atmosphere is unsurpassed anywhere outside your own family's home. Patron Richard Corrigan is regularly acclaimed as one of the best Chefs in the country, if not Europe, and of course it is his food that really elevates Lindsay House. At Christmas you'll find the clean, classic, modern British cooking featuring some clever seasonal twists - the Christmas pudding soufflé is particularly popular. If this can't fill you full of the festive spirit, nothing can.
